2014 Journal52 - Week 30 - Positive Words

The prompt for week 30 was Positive Words. I made a tag to go into a pocket in my Happiness File Folder Journal. I sectioned off the tag and then wrote the words and drew the zentangle patterns with a black fine line marker. I got my inspiration for the zentangles from a book called Zenspirations by Joanne Fink. Then I added some colour with markers.

Zentangle Inspired Art - Friends Forever

Hello Friends!
I made this card in response to a post on Monica's blog which is called Nana's Place. On Feb. 3 she made a post called Zentangle Meditation - Seek Comfort. (I would link this up for you if I knew how! If you know, please teach me! Thanks.)  She had been inspired by a friend who would tangle on a card every morning and give them as greeting cards. So I got out a set of mauve coloured cards I had in my stash and dry embossed a border on the top and bottom of the card front and then drew my design. I know I won't do one every morning, but it was fun to give it a try. Thanks to Monica for the inspiration and to the book "Zentangle Basics" by Suzanne McNeill for ideas.

File Folder Journal - Encouragement Tag

I made this tag to go in a pocket in my File Folder Journal. The background was inked and then I drew the rest. I used inspiration for the patterns from the book "Zenspirations Letters and Patterning" by Joanne Fink. I coloured the drawings with markers.
I hope you succeed in all that you wish to accomplish.  :D

File Folder Journal - Booklet insert

This is the last page of the Positive Affirmations Booklet that goes into a pocket in my File Folder Journal. I stamped the quote and owl and heart. I drew the frame using ideas from the book "Zenspirations Letters and Patterning" by Joanne Fink. I love how she embellishes all her drawings and letters. I then coloured it in with markers.
I hope that this booklet has inspired you as it has me. From time to time I need reminding to stay on a positive path.

This is pages 4, 5, 6, and 7 of my Positive Affirmations booklet that goes in a pocket inside my File Folder Journal. I have used some stamps and markers, inks and sponging, and I drew some zentangle patterns as well.

This was a fun and thought provoking booklet to make. I will show the last page in my next post....and it's my favourite!

File Folder Journal - Booklet insert

 

 

Hello! I'm trying something new here and hope it works because Blogger is still broken for doing a post the way I used to do it. Hope this works!

This is a booklet that I made as an insert for my File Folder Journal. I posted the File Folder Journal on April 4, 2012.  This booklet has 8 pages and fits into one of the pockets in the jounal. I have written over 40 positive affirmations that I found from different sources or wrote myself. I made the booklet from vanilla cardstock and coloured each page with inks and then drew some tangles or stamped on each page. I can post only one photo at a time this way so I'll post more pages each day.

Zentangle Inspired Art - Christmas Tree

This is a zentangle I did in my small sketch journal. I saw a Christmas tree drawn like this on the blog www.rainbowelephant.com. I then tangled inside the tree with my own ideas. I added the hanging decorations and base and then printed Merry Christmas. I shaded with pencil.
How are you doing with your Christmas projects? I still have bookmarks and cards to do. Christmas always sneaks up too fast!

Zentangle Inspired Art - Tropical Rock

This past summer my friend Sharon and I collected some flat rocks to use to draw zentangles. I traced the rock into my small sketch journal and then drew my design in that shape. I wanted to practice the design before I drew it on the rock. I coloured it in with markers.
Here is a picture of the rock and journal. I put a micron marker in the picture as a size comparison. I still haven't drawn the design on the rock yet! I'll have to try it soon.

Zentangle Inspired Art - Cayke Walk

This page in my small sketch journal was inspired by a new tangle pattern I saw on www.TanglePatterns.com called Cayke created by Rose Brown. I wanted to give the pattern a try and this is what I created. The Cayke tangle is at the top and bottom of this tangle.

Zentangles Inspired Art Sketch - Old Stapled Paper

I did this sketch in my small drawing journal. I wanted to make it look like an old torn piece of paper.  I thought I would leave it blank so that I could copy it and use it on other journal pages and fill in whatever words I need.
I started this in a doctor's office waiting room. The people there were quite fascinated to watch what I was doing. Some even came over to watch and ask me about it.

Zentangle Inspired Art - Umbrella on black cardstock

I had my sister Lou over and we did some zentangling. We drew an umbrella on black cardstock and tangled with gel pens. I chose the glittery gel pens and filled in all the sections of the umbrella with different tangle patterns. It was fun to sit and tangle with her doing it too. I always enjoy creating with others to share the fun.

Zentangle Inspired Art - Dress

I drew this dress in my Manila Sketch Journal. I divided it into sections with my micron pen and then drew different zentangle patterns in each section.  I drew a border around the page and then painted the whole sketch with watercolour paints.

File Folder Journal - Positive Affirmations

I made a journal from a file folder. It has pockets inside to put your artwork or anything else you would want to do. I chose to do positive affirmations with some Zentangle inspired art and stamps to decorate each tag for inside the pockets. The journal folds out into four sections. There are several you tube videos you can find that show you how to make these.

I decorated the inside and outside with coordinating vintage style design papers. I also added some stickers and bling. All the edges were distressed by sponging ink. This is still a work in progress.

I have made some of the tags to go inside. I used vanilla cardstock, then rubbed three colours of ink onto my craft mat , spritzed the ink with water, then rubbed the tags into the inks to colour the backgrounds. Then I wrote the positive affirmations and did some zentangling or stamping to decorate the tag. Here are four that I have made so far.

I'm working at keeping all my thoughts positive and I contemplate each affirmation as I tangle.

Manila Sketch Journal - Zentangle Scene with Tree

This is the first page in a 4" x 5.5" journal that my friend Pat Anderson gave to me. The pages are the colour of manila file folders. I want to use this journal to do Zentangle inspired art and sketching.
This scene is my version of a sketch I found in the book "Time to Tangle with Colors" by Marie Browning and published by Design Originals. In the book Marie coloured her scene in with markers but I used coloured pencils. I used three different methods to blend my pencil colours: 1. odorless mineral spirits and a paper blending stump 2. a blending pencil for the sky 3. different shades of pencil crayons to blend the colours together.
I used different tangles to fill in the areas in most places in my scene than Marie used in hers. I really like the way Marie draws her trees and I had fun doing that.

Zentangle Inspired Art - The Nativity Scene

Jesus is the reason for the season!
While I was working on something yesterday I had an overwhelming urge to draw a zentangle nativity scene. I didn't have much time as I had to go out soon. So I grabbed a black ballpoint pen and a piece of scrap paper and did a quick sketch and filled it with tangles. Today I filled in the hay and then made some shadowing with a pencil.

Zentangle Inspired Art - Branch and Flower

I made this page in my kraft paper art journal. I drew in the partial flower and branch of leaves. Then I drew some tangles in the flower petals. I added colour with markers. It's just a fun little page to have some play time.

Zentangle Inspired Art - Mandala

Here is another Mandala that I did in my kraft paged journal. This one is done with micron pens in black. I first traced the circular shape with the apple slicer-corer in pencil, then drew my designs with the black micron pen over the shape.
I'd love to hear what you think of this and if you have tried a mandala yet.

Zentangle Inspired Art - Mandala

I created this page in a 6.5" x 4.75" journal that has kraft coloured paper. I used metallic gel pens to draw the mandala.

First I traced around an apple corer-slicer with pencil. I saw this idea of using the apple corer-slicer on Margaret Bremner's blog called Enthusiastic Artist posted January 17th, 2011. When you use the apple corer-slicer it divides your circle into sections. Then you draw with your pens to create your designs. I added a flower shaped bead into the middle of the design to finish it off.

Many thanks to Margaret Bremner for the idea of using this kitchen utensil to trace a circle. Margaret is a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher)  and a fellow Canadian from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Zentangle Inspired Art - with Outline stamps

I did this page in one of my art journals. I first stamped three different Outline stamp flowers and then I stamped the same leaf stamp twice. I drew tangle patterns in all of the stamped images and then I drew in the background. I coloured in the flowers and leaves with prismacolor pencil crayons and blended the colours with odorless mineral spirits.

Zentangles Inspired Art - Flowers and Ribbons

This was inspired from the book I bought entitled "Totally Tangled" by Sandy Steen Bartholomew. I was trying out some of the tangle patterns in her book and this is what I came up with. I decided to add some colour to give it some pizzaz.
